‘The Instructor is a competent and experienced small boat sailor, capable of sailing a training boat confidently in strong winds and handling small powerboats.’

This is a weeklong residential that will train candidates and assess their competency to teach dinghy sailing to adults and children, both beginners and improvers, including the RYA National Sailing Scheme Level 1 and Level 2, Seamanship Skills, and Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1 to 4.

This course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. By the end of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge. It is recommended that all participants consolidate this short introduction with the Basic Skills Level 2 course.

The BCU 2 Star is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddle sport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding of how the paddle, boat and water interact.

To successfully complete the award at this level applicants will need to recognise the level of skill, understanding and knowledge demonstrated (whilst journeying in a sheltered sea environment as part of a led group with winds no more than Force 3) is of the standard of an able, improving sea paddler and beyond that of the beginner.

A consistent two star kayak standard of performance is appropriate for anyone starting to work towards the 3 Star Sea Kayak award.

We will run informal kayaking on Saturday mornings starting in March 2010 and run throughout the year (except on Bank Holidays, Easter and 17th December to 31st January.)

The course is aimed at youth leaders, teachers and other adults interested in the leadership of groups off road. The elements of training are:

• Group control
• Navigation
• Access

• Route planning
• First aid
• Riding techniques
• Equipment
• Basic maintenance

Please note an additional £40 must be sent to British Schools as a registration fee.

This course introduces the techniques used in powerboats escorting racing fleets of dinghies and windsurfers, providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets and assisting in race management. Techniques for canoes/kayaks and kite surfers will also be discussed.

It is strongly recommended that participants hold a first aid certificate.

This one day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. It fulfils the requirements for professional skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of safe haven. The course is MCA and HSE approved.

This one day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. It fulfils the requirements for professional skippers of small craft working within 60 miles of safe haven. The course is MCA and HSE approved.

If you own a marine radio handheld or fixed set, you are required by law to hold an operator’s licence. Learn the procedures for operation and gain the qualification on this one-day examined course.

Direct assessments are also available on request.

*Note: Operators 14 & 15 years old may hold a VHF licence but are not authorised to operate a VHF unit until they are 16.
