The FatFace Foundation Young Helms Programme

Delivered March to May 2025:

  • 167 participants with 34 adults
  • 16 sessions delivered
  • 5 participants returned for further sailing
  • 1 applied to the CACT Apprenticeship Programme

In 2025, 167 young people developed sailing skills, confidence and resilience through the Young Helms Programme, growing from just 15 participants in 2021. A three year funding partnership from the FatFace Foundation allows groups to return each year, creating continuity, deepening skills and strengthening long-term impact.

Beneficiaries included:

  • Pupils from secondary and SEND schools in areas of high deprivation
  • Afghan refugees
  • Adults with learning disabilities
  • Blind or visually impaired 18-30 year olds

“Our partnership with Cobnor Activities Centre Trust over the past couple of years has been nothing short of inspiring. The Young Helms Programme embodies everything the Fat Face Foundation stands for – empowering young people, building confidence through adventure, and creating opportunities where they’re needed most. We’re incredibly proud to have supported this journey and to see the lasting impact it’s having on our local community.”
