On Day 3 of Cowes Week 2024, our Education Development Manager, Caroline Fisk, attended an evening reception at the Sir Max Aitken Museum in Cowes to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Greig City Academy Sailing programme. During the event, Caroline met Jon Holt, the inspiring teacher and head of sixth form, who founded the highly successful programme, along with a group of current and former students from Greig City Academy participating in Cowes Week 2024.
Caroline also met with Brid and Alex from the Scaramouche Sailing Trust to explore potential collaborations with Cobnor Activities Centre Trust. Thanks to funding from the RYA Foundation Fund and a recent fundraising event by the Scaramouche Sailing Trust in memory of Caroline’s childhood friend Jamie Mears, organised by his wife Gemma and their three young sons, ten Year 9 students will have the opportunity to attend five residential weekends at Cobnor Activities Centre Trust. There, they will earn their RYA Stage 1 and 2 qualifications in Chichester Harbour, preparing them to join the sailing programme at their local reservoir, King George’s SC in North London.
Caroline expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “It was wonderful to reconnect with Jon and his students, as well as others who have contributed to the programme’s success. Jon is an inspiration to his students and everyone who hears his story. The pupils were all so enthusiastic during the presentation, and it’s fantastic to see them enjoying Cowes Week again this year.”
