Cobnor Activities Centre Trust is an independent charity and licensed provider of adventure activities, based in the heart of Chichester Harbour. We work to enhance life experiences for young people by providing high quality outdoor experiences and personal development, through our activities and educational programmes.

After recent strategic planning and planned investment in 2020 to widen our audience and services, we are recruiting for a variety of positions (both permanent and fixed term) to support the development and future growth of the charity. 

All permanent and fixed term posts offer the equivalent of 28 days holiday entitlement,pension , further training and development, uniform and the chance to be part of a team that strives to be the best in the industry, as well as the opportunity to work in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Chief Instructor 

We wish to recruit our Chief Instructor from 1st March 2020 (or sooner, if available) on a permanent contract, subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, and a 6-month probationary period. 

Salary range: £19,000 to £22,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience on 40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekend working. 

The Chief Instructor will lead, deploy, motivate and develop a team of high-quality instructors and volunteers, ensuring best practice and excellence in all activity and training delivery. As a key member of the Trust's leadership team, you will be able to clearly communicate our vision to staff and guests and have overall responsibility for the daily activities provision and development programmes. 

The successful applicants must hold a range of NGB qualifications, both water and land based, and subsequent experience to include at least 2 years' experience at an activity centre, at similar role or level. 

To hold TWO of the following qualifications: British Canoeing Level 2 Coach with tidal experience, RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor with tidal experience, RYA Powerboat Instructors. 

Additionally, hold two NGB qualifications and/or significant experience in either Low Ropes, Archery, Climbing, Mountain Biking or walking or any other equivalent outdoor activity awards.

Activities Instructors

We wish to recruit Activities Instructors on fixed term contracts from April to September 2020 (with the possibility of extension). 

Salary Range: £16,000 to £18,000 per annum pro-rata, 40 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. 

The job purpose is to lead in the daily delivery of all activities and educational programmes at Cobnor Activities Centre, ensuring that all activity sessions are delivered safely and to a high and professional standard, reflecting the Trust's mission and purpose. 

Applicants must hold a range of NGB qualifications, to include at least 2 of the following (ideally one watersports) qualifications with at least one year's subsequent experience in an activity centre:

  • Minimum British canoeing Level 1 coach with tidal experience 
  • Minimum RYA Dinghy Instructor with tidal experience 
  • Archery (GNAS) 
  • Climbing (CWA)

The successful candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative. Additional qualifications and experience in Low Ropes, Mountain Biking and team challenges are beneficial to the role. 

Activities Instructors Job Description

Closing date for the Activities Instructors applications is 1600 on Friday 12 February 2020 and interviews will take place before March 2020. 


Chef/Catering  Supervisor 

We wish to recruit a Chef/Catering Supervisor on a fixed term contract from early March until October 2020 (possibility of extension and further hours) Job Share considered

Salary range: £19,500 - £22,000 per annum pro rata  (£9.38 to £10.58 per hour, based on an average of 40 hours per week)

You will be creating simple, healthy food for young children, including homemade cakes for tea You will have the chance to demonstrate your passion for cooking and nutrition, whilst delivering the highest standards of customer care. Casual Activities Instructors for 2020 

We are looking to recruit a number of casual staff to join our team for 2020, from sailors to climbers to paddlers, and those wishing to start out in the industry. All candidates require enthusiasm, professionalism and a can-do attitude, whilst able to complete all the Trust's recruitment requirements to include DBS check. 

We offer a competitive salary, further training opportunities and the chance to be part of a team that strives to be the best in the industry, as well as the opportunity to work in an area of outstanding natural beauty. 

We are holding our Induction/Training week from 06 to 09 April 2020 (0930 to 1630 Monday to Thursday) and lunch will be provided. Over the day, you will have the opportunity to trained and assessed to deliver our site-specific activities, to include low ropes, problem solving, Aeroball and Orienteering. So why not come along and see how we work? 

The training and induction days offer an opportunity for both qualified and non-qualified people to be trained and inducted for working at CACT throughout 2020 and are a mandatory part of working at CACT. There is  no formal interview, just an opportunity to meet a professional team of like-minded people, working in a wonderful location.
